Am I the only one who doesn't see how this relates to Northern Virginia? Arlington Cemetery is in NoVA, but so is the CIA, and I don't think that a thread on U.S. spying practices would last long in this forum. Ted Kennedy's burial has nothing to do with this area...unless it caused massive traffic jams in half of the metro area. Then we could all gripe about how annoying that was.

Ok, so Bush took a "few flights over Texas" as part of the Air National Guard.
Good point. Also please debate on this forum without insulting members and making negative remarks. (hint: it increases your reputation points)

What do reputation points buy you?

The same might be said of the Vatican itself. I wonder what percentage of people worldwide can tell you who the Pope is. He's a legend with his own constituency.

Really? About 25% of Americans self-identify as Catholics -- so thats about 60 million? Hmmm -- I bet we ALL know who the Pope is -- Pope Benedict XVI. And since Catholics are the largest Christian group in the WORLD -- I'm thinking you are probably wrong. Even non-Catholics and non-Christians know the Vatican and the Pope -- he is a major figure in the world. Did you SEE the network coverage when he came to Washington DC??

Are you Protestant by chance??

Apparently Ted wanted to be part of that constituency.

Why else would he reach out to the Pope by having Obama personally deliver a letter to him? How many people have Obama be their messenger?

I didn't watch much of the events associated with the funeral, but I didn't see the following:

"With this in mind, Church observers are keen to see if Boston's ArchbishopCardinal Sean O'Malley will preside over Kennedy's funeral."

I seem to recall a couple posts where you were called on the carpet for the way you talked to someone on here.
