I just got a very nice job offer, so I'm taking it. It's in Falls Church on Leesburg Pike. I currently live in MD, so I know NOVA pretty well. I'm exploring the options to move to be near work. I'm a single with no strings dude, so flexible.

I do NOT want to live inside NoVA - too expensive & crowded. Is there any small/rural towns with cheap housing that's within a reasonable distance to Falls Church? Preferably less than an hour of communing. I know I'll still have to deal with traffic, but if I have to take I-66, forget it. I also will want to buy a house, so I don't want an apartment unless it's one of those 6-month things.

I don't know of anywhere that would be an easy commute to Falls Church outisde of the Falls Church area. You're also talking heavily travelled roads, not just I-66, but I-95, Rt 7, Rt 50, all very heavy during rush hour. I think you're looking for something that doesn't exist. Sorry, but if you really know NOVA so well, you should know this already.

BTW, NOVA covers a huge area, so I'm not sure exactly what you mean by not living in NOVA. Do you mean inside the beltway? NOVA extends outside the beltway.

Agreed. There aren't any truly rural/small town areas with cheap housing within an hour's commute of Falls Church. Parts of Great Falls might qualify as rural, but it's extremely expensive to live there. The City of Falls Church has a small town feel, as does Vienna, but both are also expensive with traffic issues.
You might want to re-think your parameters. Maybe spend some time on a weekend driving around in a 20 mile radius of your new workplace.

Not too proud here to beat a dead horse. There is no place cheap (rural or otherwise) within a rush-hour 60 minutes of Falls Church.

Seems like there was a population explosion! In the last few years...I thought only I-66 was horrible. I haven't been venturing in NoVA too much lately. When I went in for the job interview, traffic was light all the way home on Route 7 & 495 at 3:00. Did I miss something?

What I mean out of NOVA is like Fredericksburg and vicinity, but somewhere slighty closer. I was hoping for something stashed away. Guess I'll either stay here or live the same way there. Or take on a two-hour commute...ugh.
