Article in today's San Diego paper said SAIC poised to move its Corp HQ's to Mclean...with over 1,000 high paying jobs. This is on top of over 10,000 people employed by SAIC in the area already.

Course all the defense contractor work centers around DC is so it makes sense but will be yet another big loss for San Diego.

For those of you who live in the area, be happy that you're attracting these kinds of employers to keep the economy stay very strong there (while other cities/states are losing them). Virginia must be doing something right!

It is just the presidential stimulus plan in action. If you cannot grow the economy, grow the government. As the govt grows, so does DC and the surrounding burbs.

I feel bad for San Diego as SAIC was probably one of the few places that helped residents outpace the "sunshine tax". But with so many offices here already, it makes sense that SAIC would consolidate their locations.

Johnrex62: As a defense contractor, SAIC's presence was established long before any stimuli.

This along with the move by Hilton and the move by CSC and the move by Volkswagen means more demand for housing and increase in tax base....which is good.

Not so good for the already crowded school system though.

Making Christmas time even MORE fun than usual!

My son worked at the tower building, 4.8 miles from his home in Vienna. Beginning in November through December, it regularly took him 45 minutes to get home. (Without Christmas shoppers and non rush hour, it takes 12 minutes.) Add another 1,000 employees, and it will approach an hour.

Crowded in some schools, with many schools under enrolled. The whole county needs boundary changes but our school board won't do that because they're all politicians who are afraid of upsetting voters.

Many of those going to work for Volkswagen and Hilton will live in Loudoun, in their very over crowded schools.

Look at it this way...if your son ever works at the tower building again, in teh near future, he'll be able to ride the metro from tysons to vienna.
