Not a single town/city in northern VA made the Top 100. However, Norfolk, VA came in at #63. Thoughts?

According to the criteria used, I'm guessing NoVa was knocked out due to COL, Mean travel time to work, percent mortgaged owners/renters spending 30% plus on their home. I don't know the number of sex offenders/obesity rates/air quality in the area. Maybe that had an impact too.

It gets better . . . one of the folks who posted a Comment (named "Ed") specifically asks why places like Fairfax and Great Falls were left out . . . .

How do we know Washington, DC means only the District, vs the metro area? If the former, the DC school system should have knocked the ranking down, considering the study is "Children's Health Best Places to Raise a Family." There is too little information and you cannot compare one area to another, point-by-point (AFAIK).

I like that they put actual cities that people LIVE in on their list. I am surprised that Phoenix is so low on the list (93), but Miami, not so much. I think that NoVA didn't make the cut because of the way that our burbs are structured: I noticed that all of the suburbs on the list were incorporated areas that all had populations over 100,000 residents. Because of the incorporation laws in VA, other than Alexandria (if they count Arlington as a county), I don't know if we have an area that would meet that criteria. Because that is the only way that I can explain how Arlington TX is on that list, and places like Bethesda (or even Plano) aren't. Either that, or it was just the list of the 100 largest municipalities in terms of population.

These lists are getting ridiculous. It seems like magazines don't want to pay for actual articles anymore. Instead, they just come up with these silly lists. I think I've seen a dozen in the last month and most of them seem based on guess work more than actual research.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!

At least in one list Hampton Roads (Norfolk) is better than Northern Virginia.

But seriously, Norfolk is kind of underrated. It does have issues but if DC PROPER makes this list with all its why not Norfolk?
