I currently have an iphone with AT&T, but with the new google nexus one release looming, I'm considering an upgrade. The google phone will only do 3G speeds on T-Mobile, so I was hoping to solicit opinions from current T-Mobile customers as to how their service stacks up in here and DC. If anyone has experience with it in Charlottesville, that would be helpful too.

As for AT&T, they're pretty horrible for the price you pay. I like the iPhone, but I hate giving money to AT&T and having so many dropped calls and general service issues.

I've had T-Mobile in Northern Virginia since March 2005 and have not switched to any other provider in that time because I haven't felt a need to. I first signed up with them when I lived in Manassas, and now, living in Arlington, I haven't found the coverage to be any different. I usually get strong signals anywhere in this area. Their plans are probably the most reasonably priced, and I have not had any significant problems with dropped calls, bad connections, etc. My call connections have always been reliable and stable. Dealing with their customer service has been a positive experience whenever I've had to call them.

All in all, I'd say you couldn't do wrong by choosing T-Mobile.

I also have Tmobile and am very happy with them. I have great coverage. The only place where I don't get service is in the hospital I work. Everywhere else it's great.

I live in Sterling (Cascades area) and my T-Mobile service sucks. Moved here in August, and the only way I could make a phone call was to walk down to the end of my street so I could pick up a trace of tower service. Absoutely no tower service inside my house. Had to swtich to a wifi phone and use through router. Even that isn't foolproof. If I talk to someone longer than 15 minutes, it starts dropping calls. And, I get alot of SOS errors, whatever that means. T-Mobile doesn't believe us and I am stuck with them for another year now. After that, goodbye.

I used to have T-mobile, then switched to ATT . ATT is really bad around the Dulles Airport and Chantilly areas. Stick to Verizon if you plan on working in those locations.

T Mobile is fine for me in the Reston/Dulles area, but sucks in Ashburn.
