This winter reminds me of the movie Groundhog Day. I used to think of groundhogs (i.e. Puxatawney Phil) as a cute and fuzzy animal, but now I see him as a symbol of a long cold winter... he has to be stopped

A few flakes and flurries? Now that's the Virginia I know and LOVE! So done with snow this year. Anyway, even if we do get a storm next week I'm glad we avoided it this time (purely selfish reasons-- I was flying and the winds that we did have were bumpy enough).

Was there a lot of wind damage in Nova? All the news reports we get here are about New York (and now all the focus is on Chile--the storm is yesterday's news).

Ummm...I remember a late March snowstorm. I can't remember the year - somewhere in the mid-1990's, I believe. It happened around March 23, I think and was quite a big storm.

ETA: I was a bit off. It was from March 12 until March 14, 1993 and was dubbed "The Storm of the Century" until the 1996 storm blew through. So not quite late March. I'm not sure how many inches we got. I'll have to look it up. ETA: Dulles got 14 inches in that storm.

There was a big snow storm in 1996, can't remember the month. I worked in Rockville at the time and I left work at a little before 5:00 to beat the traffic. Hah! I didn't get home to Sterling until 9:00 pm. I know it was 1996 because that was the year I left my management job and began real estate full time.

Washington had a big ice storm on March 29, 1984 -- son's first birthday party was cancelled. Daughter's third birthday on April 18, 1992 had a dusting of snow.

It can happen late in the season!
