Hi all,

I'm currently working for a government contractor as a system/software engineer and while the work is gratifying, I would like a change. VMWare has always been interesting to me, both their products and the company itself. Does anybody have any experience working for VMWare and would be willing to share some information with me?

X-posted in the California section as well. Thanks!

While I don't work for VMWARE directly, I do use it on a daily basis. I'm a gov't contractor and the organization I work at has a pretty large environment. At this point we're hosting over 200 virtual guests and it's growing by the day. I went ahead and got certified (VCP) for 3.5, and I'll take the 4.0 certification once they send me to the training.

My last job I used version 2.5.x but the organization was a cheapskate and didn't send me to training. I never really got to utilize it to it's full potential because of the lack of training. It's silly to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on equipment and licensing and then not send your engineers to a training class. -end of grip-

I definitely think it's a growing field, especially for the gov't. Virtualizing servers saves a ton of money on hardware, datacenter space and power needs. It's gratifying to see empty racks as we P2V our servers.

Ask away and I'll try to answer what I can
