Thanks a lot for the responses.

Let's see, He kinda knows he's going to be working when he get's here. At least I told him I was trying to find him something and he already knows sitting on his ... isn't an option at my house.

I like the volunteer options noted, although I think to get my kid out of bed I'll have to throw a little money at it myself. That's ok, I don't mind that really. Direct transfer from my checking to his savings that he doesn't have access to seems like a good option to me.

Hey, I just said I'd pay. I didn't say I'd hand over cash or would allow him access to the funds right away.

It would be nice to find something with scuba diving. My kid has been certified for years and his mom is a certified Master Diver. Just not real big here. I already checked with the one store in Sterling.

Maybe a lifeguard. I think he's got a cert in that as well.

I'm in Reston where I know they do scuba lessons through the Reston Association aquatics program, but am not aware of what might be available that way in Sterling. Perhaps something similar?

I loved that lawn mowing idea too. Maybe he could mix it up between mowing and volunteering and get some variety in. Best of luck for a great summer for all.

I know somebody, who distributes flyers for replacement windows in quality neighborhoods.

BTW, make sure he brings his social security card with him.

He could probably get day work as a "laborer". Just hang out at the 7-eleven with the illegals.

I like this suggestion the most.

Being from So Cal, this one hit's home more than you NOVA folks could ever possibly imagine.

Hmm... Let's see, "Pizza Delivery"

Which one of my cars would be best for my 16yr old to use un-supervised?
My Mercedes ML350 or my Infinit Q45?

I would venture to say that most likely your pizza will not show AT ALL and I will be paying shelling out some dough for auto repairs.

I think I'll look at the lifeguard option 1st.

Wow - If I were a 16-year-old going to visit my dad for the summer and he's making me work with no say so in what i do, and "paying" me but not letting me actually have the money, i'd think twice about visiting. I mean, what's the point? I'm glad you are rich enough to pay your child to do volunteer work, but maybe you should re-think your priorities.

In this economy, he should do whatever he can find. Out where you are I'm hearing a lot of down and out adults are taking jobs teens used to do. It's a little easier for them to find work here in the inner suburbs.
