If the worst thing that can happen to you here in Bailey's Crossroads is having your car broken into, then that is simply a hindrance, and not a thing to worry about.
It may not be worth worrying about too much, but it's still worth noting when comparing different areas of Nova. Some people may not want to deal with having their cars broken into.

From what I hear, Bailey's Crossroads seems to be getting better. A few years ago I wouldn't have recommended it, but now I know a few people who live there and like it.

Vehicles can get broken into in even "nice" areas. People looking for GPS devices, smartphones left on the seat, nice tire rims will take advantage, even if there's a Neighborhood Watch -- that's happened in my subdivision, which I consider quite safe. So I wouldn't necessarily use that as a measuring stick of crime.

My friends live in Arlington, so it's impossible to get that size of studio space I have for the cost that it went for. I'm a cultural kind of fellow, so I enjoy all the ethnic shops and restaurants that this area has. Plus, I'm only a few minutes from Arlington and the Pentagon City area, so all I have to do is drive 5-15 minutes into Arlington.
How much is rent, typically, at Skyline?

My brother-in-law lives in the Culmore apartments, and he claims he is the only Anglo (non-Hispanic) in the entire complex. And yet, on the map, the upper-income Lake Barcroft appears to be right behind there within walking distance.

And if you think that looks bad, check out some of the DC neighborhoods!

Thanks for providing that link, however, I seriously question the accuracy of that map ??

Zooming in one click, and then judging by the little "stick figure symbols" on the map, the map claims that Reston has experienced about 20 thefts in the last 2 months, while by contrast there have been no thefts at all in Alexandria City (except for west of 395), nor in all of Arlington County. I don't see how that could be possible ??

Apparently all of you are single people, with little mention of schools. The Washington Post had an article September 4, 2012, about the Baileys Magnet School for the Arts, including its cultural diversity and serious overcrowding. You can read it by clicking here Washington Post: Breaking News, World, US, DC News & Analysis and then entering "Bailey's" in the search box. (The exact link to the article is MUCH too long for me to copy here).

It's the Fairfax County crime map.

Sorry, I didn't see this earlier in the thread. The rent at Skyline right now is a lot higher than it was the last time I posted. A studio will be anywhere between $1150-1250 per month, and a 1 BR Apt will now range anywhere from $1250-1400+ per month. The low end of these prices are quite conservative, so I would say expect $50+ more for the low end and higher in some instances. This area has seen a real skyrocket when it comes to renting prices. 2 years ago, you these prices at Skyline would've been at least $200 lower than the current pricing. Everywhere you go in this area, I would imagine that rent prices have significantly gone up, especially since the DC area is considered to be one of the few major metropolitan areas in the country with a stable job market, and educated people.
