MDW--Count on at least an hour-depending upon the time of day and season
ORD--At least 1.5 hours more/less

There is an airport in Gary. Currently the only airline flies to Sanford, FL.
Gary/Chicago International Airport

In the last few days, the airline indicated it would stop flying out of Gary this year.

There is also some work going on for a third airport in Illinois, near Monee and Beecher. It's been under study for at least 15 years or so.

Demotte is a very nice town...It is very rural.

It is around an hour commute from downtown.

I live in Saint John. Saint John is a GREAT town. I believe it was voted in the top 50 towns to live in nationwide a few years ago.

Saint John is about 40 minutes from downtown.

I personally do not think that Demotte is "up and coming".

It is a bit of a trek to get to shopping and groceries...Unless you want to pay the high prices of the small independent stores.
