Think there is tons of potential to create a thriving food truck scene downtown...it's right on the Tollway and could even evolve into a convenient place to stop for a meal for those on the Tollway. If the numbers get up to let's say, 10 trucks?, that would be basically like plopping a nice-sized food court one minute off an interstate.

How is the steel and manufacturing base in Gary today? Every time I drive by I still see a lot of smoke stacks bellowing out smoke. Not sure if things are getting worse or mostly holding steady.

As far as I know, I-94 in Indiana is not the tollway, 80/90 is. I think it'd take more than food trucks to lure people off the insterstate and into downtown Gary, but that's just my guess.

Who said 94? He said downtown Gary, which 80/90 runs right above...

Yeah, who is going to get off the toll road to get food in Gary and then pay to get back on the toll road?

The Indiana Toll Road doesn't always charge people to get out or back in from what I understand. It seems the case near the Airport at least. I don't know if the Gary ramps have tolls upon entrance, do they?

Not on the Broadway exit. But nobody is going to be causally getting off there, you can't see anything from the toll road and there are no services there for interstate traffic to begin with. And if you mistakenly get off there, you will quickly see there isn't anything there. Not even gas. Quickly turn around and go back on.

Gas, grocer at 9th, pharm still at 5th and Broadway if not mistaken, food a 11th. All within a two minute drive from getting off. Greyhound SS right there at 4th.

and then there is this...a very well-funded attempt at turning on Gary's food scene into overdrive.
