Since you would be working in Ewa I would suggest Ewa Beach or Kapolei (so many new homes/townhomes that are very nice), or Makakilo (cool breezes). Good luck!

Makakilo sounds really nice. So does Kapolei. any pros-cons to living in each?? i know traffic can be bad, especially during rush hours...... anyone know what it would be like travelling from either of those 2 locations to hawaii medical center west?? or how long it would take?
mahalo!!
and i really appreciate everyone's input thus far! you all are very helpful! I am looking forward to returning the favor to future transplants!!!

Look into condo's in Ko'olina. The furnished, vacation condo's run more, but an unfurnished should be in your price range. We live here and love it. You can walk to the lagoons and there's a new pre-school that just opened. We now also have a ABC store, disguised as a country store! LOL. It's about 10? minutes from Ewa.
We shipped one car and are now preparing to ship a second. We used Pasha and had our car driven to San Diego and put on the boat. If you can get your car to CA, shipping is only around a thousand and some change. Bon Chance!

The only caveat I would suggest for Makakilo is that there is only one road in & out, so if there's an accident, your stuck. But, the houses are nice!

I forgot about Ko'olina. I'd move there in an instant!

Love the ABC stores and glad to hear of one by the lagoons or at least in Ko`Olina.

I just moved here a few months ago to accept a position at Pali Momi Medical Center, so I essentially did the same thing you are doing! I also moved from the east coast (Virginia) with two kids and my husband. I think you will probably like the homes in Kapolei better than Ewa, just because they're newer. I chose to move to an area called Waikele, which is a little further out than you may want to be, but it's only about 15 min away from where you'll be working, and it's somewhat up on the hill so it's cooler up here. I seriously doubt you will find anything in Ko'Olina for 2k a month... if you do, you better grab it! I couldn't find anything there in that price range, unless you're willing to live in a tiny little apartment! I had my car shipped here as well.. whatever you do, do NOT go with a company called Golden Auto Transport!! I think there's a company based in NY called Road Runner transport or something like that that was recommended to me to ship my second car. I heard they have a grade A rating from the BBB, so you may want to check them out.

Good luck to you, it's refreshing to see adventurous spirits, I hope it all works out for you!

The OP started this thread over three years ago and there's been no follow-up.
His last post on CD was a thankyou to an eighteen-month-old response to a question about Oahu. That last post was preceded by a post asking questions about moving to West Islip on LI, NY.
There's no indication that the OP actually got here. I'm thinking he didn't.
But aloha and welcome to you, Cupkin! Thanks for your input and keep us posted on how things are working out for you! I'm sure there are many who would love to hear from someone who actually DID make the move!
