Joliefille: *Thank* you!
from nv and OceanBlue87: Thanks to both of you for your encouragement! It sounds like pretty similar circumstances to my own. I had a spotty work history in my 18-23 years, but I've been working for the same major bank for 7 years now, so I hope that counts for something. I really want to get out of banking and back into protecting people, even in a minor security position. Drug tests are no problem, I hate drugs, and don't even drink.
I really think I can (and will!) do this...I've been researching it non-stop every day during my free time. And today I was out riding my bike, and thought, "Okay, now imagine you're doing this at the edge of an ocean, in a tropical paradise, and you can do this EVERY DAY if you want, then cool off in the water with fishies that hopefully won't attack you." Ever since I thought of it, every place else I could move just seems to suck by comparison.
OceanBlue87 - did you have difficulty with transportation when you got there? I know there are lots of threads about it, but I'd like to know from people that started on shoestring budgets. Did you end up with a car, or do you get around through public transportation?
