Most go to honolulu.
Some go to Honolulu next to Maui and to the Big Island.
Others go to Honolulu and barge to some of the other islands, but Honolulu is ususally the primary destination.
if your trying to book passage and they are telling you they only go to Hilo, your dealing with a scammer.
Hilo is a small port, I don't think it can handle the big mainland transports and cargo ships. We get the little inter-island barges here. I'm pretty sure most of them are unloaded by driving the cars off of them and by forklifts moving the boxes and crates instead of the big overhead systems like they use on Oahu.
I'm not even sure if the big ocean carriers can fit into Kawaihae harbor here on the Big Island although I think they have the overhead derrick type cranes there to load and offload with like they do in Honolulu harbor.
Matson, Pasha, and Horizon all ship vehicles to Hawaii. Go look at their websites and you will get all of the information you need on costs and how it works.
I used Pasha for a few reasons, I have show cars and wanted to be sure they were taken care of from start to finish. Matson said they could put the cars in a container but this would cost extra but after talking with Pasha they have an enclosed ship and were so very helpful with every step of the process and they deliver to Oahu no problem although they delivered my vehicles to Hilo. They were about $20 more than Matson but Pasha went out of their way to assist all my needs and made it painless.
