Hello all, I'm a military brat who joined the military and then married a military man who passed away a few years ago. So, needless to say I haven't really stayed put long enough in one spot to call anywhere home...except Hawaii. I lived on Oahu for about 6 years (the longest I've ever lived anywhere) during my teen years until joining the military at 21. My mom lived there many more years and I was a frequent visitor until she left
It is the only place I feel completely comfortable. Looks like moving back is becoming a reality and I'm planning a move next summer.
Ok, so here is the trouble.
I have 3 kids and living as a teen in Hawaii and living as a parent are hugely different realities. I have been looking into Kailua and the public schools there (Kailua Intermediate and Kalaheo HS). My oldest will be going into 6th grade next year, but I'm trying to look ahead. I know about the school situation in general in Hawaii, but I agree that it is also what you put into it. Does anyone have any input on these schools or any suggestions for other good public schools, both middle and high school? I'll be renting most likely until I can save enough to buy a home...perhaps when I'm 75? lol, I don't care. I'm willing to live in a closet so that my children can experience the beautiful aloha spirit of the island!
