- Cheapest out of Oakland $1050-something to Kaua'i, port to port--no forwarders, just me.
- I saw the open car carriers there: they looked like containers without walls, just vertical metal bars at the corners. I actually think it was a large metal unit, say 3 containers long and 3 high, with just floors and vertical support. I think they fill it up on shore, then use the crane to place it on top of a regular container ship.
- You go to the office first, pay inside, then drive to the dock. You wait for the guy to tell you where to park and he puts a sticker on it and you leave the keys on front seat. I didn't do any sort of inspection (where you mark all car damage, like when you rent a car), but wasn't asking for one either because I had a tiny star on my windshield for which they say they'll refuse to ship it.
- My car got a few extra scratches. I don't really care, because I drive scratched cars so I don't have to worry about stuff like that, but I still pointed it out to them. I could tell they weren't the old scratches because they were a different color (gray).
- The Kaua'i guys told me it was the people in Oakland that did it, but who knows. Because I didn't do an inspection, there was no way to prove anything.
Happy times with the BananaTang! You are now living in Hawaii AND cruising around in a convertible! I remember when I first started reading your posts, and look how it's all come together! Good going, girl, can't wait to call out "City Data!" to you!
Aloha!

Mahalo Kauai for your expericence. It helps others to be aware how things really work even dealing directly with Matson/Pasha/Horizon. Sorry you had more scratches on DC. Glad you were relaxed about it. Ruby

Aloha Allison! Yes the last two months have been a whirlwind of activity and changes...for the best. I'll be listening for the shout-out.
Matson uses a ship that was specifically built for auto transport. The cars are secured inside. The thing looks like a cruise ship with many, many decks.
I am so glad about clarification about Pasha and Matson. I've read here in different forums about Matson. Life SAVER!!! I am already in planning stages of when to set up my appointments and such. Anyone know about Matson containers? Is that the best way to ship bulk items? I have a lot of books and tools that I need for my trade. Impossible to buy them back if I got rid of them..Thanks.
Just a word of caution: I shipped a 2008 BMW Z4 to Maui from Long Beach through Pasha. Car arrived on time a few weeks ago and no damage, but the carpet floor mats and two small convertible top pieces that were in the car originally were missing. Pasha denied my claim stating that I did not list the floor mats as included with the car (who even thinks about floor mats?). The car was shipped from a dealer on the mainland who asked the carrier if the convertible top pieces would be OK in the car and he said they would be fine but he did not make a written notation.
I had to buy replacements which I found on Ebay (Maybe the same ones stolen from the car) for $225.00
The car was locked with Pasha having the only key, so I assume their employees stole the items from the car.
The only explanation I got was "we don't cover those sorts of things".
We shipped a BMW via Pasha from San Diego and picked up in Hilo. It was a very good experience for us and I would highly recommend Pasha. We had the car detailed in San Diego before dropping it off and it arrived looking just like when we dropped it off. In Hilo you pick up the vehicle at Harpers.
We used Pasha as well, out of San Diego, and had a good experience. But that does not minimize those who did not have the same experience. Please foward your complaint to the BBB so that others can make an educated descion.
