I'll be coming to Honolulu in January to work for three months - really excited about the respite from the cold NJ winter. Need to get to the Hertz office at the Waikiki Hyatt to pick up a car. Can you tell me the best way to get there - taxi, shuttle, etc.? Thanks for your help - I'm sure I'll have many more questions once there.

Shuttle is your best bet - here is a link: SpeediShuttle | Hawaii airport shuttle and transportation - Maui, Oahu, Big Island, and Kauai

I would call the Airport Hertz office and see if they can give you a shuttle to their other location.
Hertz @ the airport: (808) 831-3489

Perhaps they could even transfer your pickup to the Airport Location?

The problem with getting the car at the airport is you are subject to all the taxes and fees that are specially assessed - you dodge that by getting the car off airport.

Yes, the "best" way to parse the OP's question is what is the LEASE EXPENSIVE way to get to Waikiki?

The on-premises airport rental franchises charge a premium, and the taxi cost is about $50. SpeediShuttle (and similar competitors) cost less, but give you a "free tour" of every resort between the airport and Waikiki where they have drop-offs.

Net/net it depends upon your priorities. You can also take The Bus (with some luggage restrictions).

Best of luck and e komo mai.

The bus #19 goes from the airport (upper level) to Waikiki via Ala Moana, leaves about every 45 minutes. My wife took it today. Fare is something like $2. But I don't know if they allow baggage, my wife only had a daypack. You'd have to google it.

I took that bus a couple of years ago and it was great! But I only had one bag.

Roberts Hawaii! I don't think that you even have to make a reservation, but you do have to pay in cash. Around $8.00 if memory serves.
