I say fresh catch! They've got the variety and the strong flavor choices (so its not just fish with salt in most cases) that other places can't beat. I think a close second is that famous place on Kapahulu, but not much for variety there

My two favorite places for poke are:

Tanioka's on Farrington Hwy. in Waipahu
Tamura's on Waialae Ave. in Kaimuki

Foodland's poke is very decently prepared. Great if you want a quick poke bowl and don't want to drive to some name brand place. I always get spicy ahi, so for the most part they all taste similar.

My DH is a sashimi man and now has a new love: poke. I think his first experience (not the Lonesome Dove kind) was from Foodland and he's hooked. Can't wait to tell him about Tanoika's!

Me too! I just prefer Tanioka's and Tamura's the last several years. I live pretty far away from Tanioka's, but I buy their poke when I have parties at my home in Kaimuki. It's that good!
