Random question, where to get the best, least expensive papayas on the island??

~Katy[/quote]

We get ours from our yard. Seriously, you probably will be able to get them from neighbors or maybe roadside stands. And there are also farmer's markets.

Check out the Cat Clinic in Oahu, when you get settled. Careful moving older cats. Only Alaska Airlines allow pets in the cabin on the way to Oahu at the time. All other carriers are baggage for pets. Hopefully you will have time to prequarentine. Very important for cat health to not have to quarantine in Oahu if possible. You can also request quarantine at the cat clinic if your cat is old or has medical issues. Where are you moving from?

Well, unless you are willing to fly back and forth several times on Alaska in order to bring a cat in the cabin with you each time, in order to get your four cats here, I think you will wind up shipping some in cargo. So you should plan ahead.

What you should do is manage things to avoid quarantine. Many people have previously posted about how their pets' personalities changed after a stint in quarantine. Knowing that you still have the time (a month ago you said it would be at least 6 months) you should get started on the process soon so that you don't have to do any quarantine at all, and can complete the entire procedure to qualify for direct release at the airport. Keep in mind that the 120 day waiting period does not start until the blood samples arrive at the Kansas City lab.

Thank you for the suggestion to look into the Cat Clinic, we will most definitely do so! Also our oldest cat is 8 which is a little on the older side but should be fine for the trip. Coming back will be a whole other story with her possibly in nearly 5 years, we will see.

Yes I've heard some of the quarantine stories, and under no circumstances do we intend to let them stay in the quarantine facility. They are all set so far with their first round of vaccines and microchips. They'll have their second round of shots this month, or early september at the absolute latest. So then we will be abke to get the blood test taken no later than October which would make them ready to go by sometime in February. We're moving in March, so as long as their blood tests come back right they should be good to go by then. As a side note, I believe their blood work will be going to the DOD lab, not that it makes any difference as to when the clock starts for their 120 days.

We already know they'll have to go as cargo.

A mainland friend asked me if there was similar procedures for "select" relatives that may want to visit , and move, later?
I suggested that an alternative location other than Hawaii, for him, may be best, such as " The Witness Protection Program".

Cargo shouldn't be a problem, the holds are temperature controlled. What isn't temperature controlled is the journey between the terminal and the airplane. It might be best to schedule an early flight if possible for any transfers or initial flights where the temperatures can be hot. Also having print outs of the expected temperatures of any layover airports. Just in case there's questions at the initial check in.

The folks moving for the Witness Protection Plan are all in Puna and Ka'u on the Big Island, aren't they, OKfine? Folks can get lost off in the rain forest over there.

LOL- I believe you are correct. Matter of fact, I may have seen members of Congress departing for there, especially now again on 5 weeks recess, and explains why/how so little has been accomplished past session.
