"he WILL be getting a decent housing allowance and a cost of living allowance"....

funny, how landlords seem to know just what the housing allowance is, and how that exactly matches the rent.... even funnier is how the rent goes up at the same time as the allowance... Son lived in Waipahu, and his commute to the Barracks was easy.

Regards

I would think for a 24 year old that Haleiwa would be great. You get a nice artsy, laid back surf town vibe going on and it doesn't take too long to get to Schofield.

Mililani is a planned community and family focused, as are the other locations listed.

I would not go from Waikiki to Schofield...... it's against traffic, but you will still hit pockets of it.

I would ask what type of things you like to do in your down time, because it makes a difference. The majority of night life and clubs are in Waikiki, "some" in Pearl City.

When I lived there, several of the single officers lived in Haleiwa and in the Pearlridge area; and although both call for commutes, the Pearlridge area will have more traffic (I think). But there are a ton of apartments in Pearlridge as well as the Mall and when not at work an easier drive to Downtown and Waikiki.

You'll be in the middle of the island. Great place to be to enjoy all areas of the island. It's not a big place. Live where you want! PCS over, take the temp housing and start exploring. Figure out your favorite beach and live near there!

Braddah, just stay on base; too crowded and probably much safer...

nah, nah, just kidding!

Congrats by the way; always nice to get a promotion.

North shore nice, but that side get a lot of rain. I would say get a place in Ewa Beach; there are beaches and hardly ever rains this side. The drive to SB is about 30 minutes or so, not too bad.

Young guy with decent rent money. Waikiki for at least 3 months. My last tenant did it for a year. Thirty minutes to work and 60-90 coming home. Sure you can visit Waikiki but it will never be the same as falling out of bed and being 5 minutes to the beach. Clubbing with the tourist girls is different if you have to drag them back to Salt Lake.
