It always amuses me to see people sitting for 10 minutes to get a parking space 50 feet from the door of a store they plan to walk half a mile through.

A car is a liability downtown. The amount you will pay in parking is ridiculous. If you really need a car, you can rent one for a day. Biking is popular in-town. Buy some bikes and maybe a moped.

Or buy an electric car. Lots of municipal lots in downtown and they all allow electric vehicles to park free. You can even get prime stall locations and charge for free in certain areas.
