BEWARE of termites. They are RAMPANT on Hawaii. Not the mainland termites either. These are different. Creepy little things. They ate the headboard of my coworkers bed that he slept in every night.

Also spalling is a huge problem.
Thank you for the great information. I hadn't heard about the termites. We spent a day in ewa beach driving around there and kapolei ...we looked at some beautiful new/newer homes. I love they had costco nearby but it is dryer not as green and alittle more flat and we knew that but we liked you could get a newer home and we could always drive to the pretty side but what scared us off was traffic. Everyone always mentions how bad the traffic is and I just thought it can't be that bad. We used to live the Dallas ft worth area but we headed back east in the afternoon and the traffic going towards ewa beach was backed up it seemed for miles.

Yeah, that to is the downside of Ewa Beach is the traffic. When you have to drive that every day it is a drag.

But no matter where you live on island there will be irritating traffic during rush hours. Personally besides Ewa Beach, I like the Kaimuki/Wilhelmina Rise area. Two totally different types of areas; the latter being closer to town and very hilly.
The termite issue can be mitigated with treatments, so it's not like everyone's home is invested to the point of falling apart; you just have to stay on top of things.

Thank you ... I will look in that kaimuki area. Yea before we moved to vegas lots of people warned us about spiders ..bugs and scorpion problems but we have our house sprayed every 90 days and have never had a problem.
