O'Toole's Irish pub downtown where you may find a pint more to the flavors you may be used to, but maybe not. I'm not sure how authentic they are.
Skip O'Toole's, the closest thing to a pub you find in Honolulu would be Murphy's (across from O'Toole's). You'll find as close to authentic food as well - much classier than O'Toole's. Ferguson's isn't to bad downtown also.
hotzcatz thanks for all the advice! Sounds like a good plan re: living without a car for a while. Great to know re: yard sales (and yes car boot sales round these parts) - I've also stalked all the thrift stores I can find and it's great seeing kettles etc at such low prices (I think I would legit die without the ability to have a cup of tea haha).
Clothing - great to know. After living in Wales for six months I'm more than au fait with rain now so no worries for me - don't bother with umbrellas any more or I'd forever be lugging one around. Luckily I'm a natural materials person anyway so looking good on that front.
And wow thanks for the insight on restaurants! We're pretty good at trying anything available but I'll bet around Christmas we'll be craving a taste of home.

Wife's contract paperwork all signed and sent, I've been rejected for first job (boo but not unfair, I was lacking on the US legal knowledge) and waiting to hear from the second. Visa process due to begin next month. Things are starting to move along...!

Are you talking electric kettles? Are those a thing in Hawaii? I have never seen one on the mainland.

They're fairly popular on the mainland, even with fewer tea drinkers. However, due to voltage limitations, they're not as speedy to heat as ones in Europe.

Ah no not electric - stove top - is that what they're called? Wife's family's got an aga so I'm fairly au fait with those kettles... just need to see if there's actually a *stove* in the apts, hah!
Quote from Irish friend after finding out I didn't have an electric kettle: "You boil water on the stove? That's like living in the dark ages."
