Isn't that just a mainland thing? From what I have seen of the business people I know in Hawaii, aloha shirts are an everyday thing.

Actually, at my work site at Pearl Harbor Naval Ship Yard. All the Supervisors, and higher Management people and throughout the Ship yard, wear Aloha Shirts on Fridays. The rest of the week Polo shirts. Just one perspective.

If you want to look professional, and dress well by Hawaii standards, don't wait till Friday to wear your aloha shirt.

Thanks nerdlette

Yes again Cambodia and Vietnam have shown me that life is miserable without aircon.

I've had clothes rot in England due to damp (bunged at the back of a wardrobe/cupboard) so I guess it's just a case of keep an eye on things and look after them.

I was being facetious. I mostly wear polo shirts because they are more comfortable. The really comfortable aloha shirts usually require dry cleaning.

Trying to find out about swimming in the area. I SUCK but I absolutely love it. Tough to get me out of the sea or the pool once I'm in! I try and go to our local pool quite regularly but if my wife can't drive me it's basically impossible. Walking home for an hour in the freezing rain after swimming is not fun. So hoping to take advantage of the weather and the extra free time when we move and swim quite regularly. I've gained 12lbs of working from home, eating cake, avoiding the rain fat since we moved to Wales, and I'm quite keen to lose it...! I'm struggling to find any details though - pools here are generally linked to the local council so have up to date websites and residents' discounts and the like. Any recommendations of pools and indications of prices welcome!

None of the public pools will be anywhere near where you are staying. But, if you can get there, they are free. If you don't want a free pool - you'll need to join one of the few gyms that have one. But, we also have this thing called the Pacific Ocean people use all year around.

The campus has a pool - the staff member can buy a membership for $240/year - and $10 for a guest.

Oh fab, thanks for this - Google was proving very unhelpful. And yes ocean is wonderful hah but I enjoy my slow laps and feel more comfortable swimming solo in a pool than in the sea.
