"Moana Parking Management LLC filed for Chapter 7 liquidation in Delaware bankruptcy court on Friday, shutting down its parking lot pay stations at the Honolulu Zoo, the Pali Lookout, Diamond Head Crater and Akaka Falls on the Big Island.

"Our priority during this interim is to manage the crowds and vehicles at Diamond Head and to keep everyone safe," said State Parks administrator Dan Quinn. "We will work to implement new parking concessions as soon as possible," he said.

In Waikiki, zoo and beach goers were greeted with handwritten "out of order" signs this morning. For some, the offer of free parking looked to good to be true"

I remember when all the parking was FREE and I could walk home through the Zoo for FREE. And then the after 1978 mainland haoles came and destroyed my way of life.

The city announced Tuesday that it has selected a new concessionaire to manage and operate parking at the Honolulu Zoo. So the free parking at the Zoo is over!
