I dont get the thinking "i have to buy, WHY do you have to buy,? renting is ok until you get a feel for HI-it aint for everybody. Its not really a melting pot, for example.

after renting, We are looking at a 15 year plus stay.
You buy to lock in your housing expense to protect yourself from inflation.
