Hi! We are moving to Oahu in April! My husband and I get a house hunting trip in a few weeks and would love to also do some sight seeing, especially snorkeling. Where is the best place to go?

Take a catamaran out to leeward side to where the HECO pipe exits. Lots of fish.

Even though it's over regulated and full of tourists, Hanauma Bay is also full of fish. You'll see more fish there than anywhere else. It's also in a protected cove so you won't get washed away. Right now pretty much anywhere on North Shore is gonna be too rough for snorkeling. Places like Ala Moana beach are calm enough, but there's not many fish. So for the 'oh wow' loads of fish snorkeling, Hanauma Bay is a guaranteed spot. Sometimes off Waikiki you can see fish and turtles, but a lot of that is just flat sandy bottoms so not much in the way of marine life to view.

If you have access to a military base get on Kaneohe Bay and hit the windward side of the pace. Near golf course. Phenomenal snorkeling if water is calm. Choke fish. No people.

Hanama Bay snorkling is a first choice for new to the islands. I went there first, when i first arrived on Oahu. Just a heads up, Hunamua Bay is closed on Tuesdays.
Enjoy the house hunting trip.

I was snorkeling in Hanauma Bay once; I cut my hand on a sharp rock and it was bleeding pretty well. You want to see fish? I had fish. Lots and lots of fish. A solid wall of fish around me. I was Miss Popularity for a few minutes.

The other times, I was somewhat disappointed with the snorkeling.
