My lease is coming up on my apartment, and I am interested in moving to a better place. I like to be in the Waikiki area since its close to the beach and the shops. I love the diamond head neighborhood, but I fear I may not be able to afford it.

Alot of good rentals get rented by word of mouth. You must have some local friends you hangout with or work with? Why not just causally mention one day your looking for a new place to rent?

Some don't even do that.

While walking the neighborhood, TALK to people. Tell them something like you're just poking around, getting a feel for the neighborhood because you're looking for a good place to rent.

You're just likely to get "over the side of the street, two door, talk there, they gotta renter out back going away married. . ."

A friend of mine who manages property rentals posts listings on Zillow.com, there are a ton of listings in there.

Zillow never really seems to be up to date in Hawaii, not sure why.
