Our son is a Marine stationed at K-Bay and just got his car.

Not knowing his way around the island, we were thinking of buying him a GPS but would like to keep it reasonable in cost.

Can anyone tell me the GPS system they find MOST accurate for Oahu???

Again, would like to get him the cheapest, but most accurate that we can.

Thanks for the help with this...know some systems seem better outside of the mainland than others.

GPS on Oahu consists of the following,,,,,,go mauka, go makai, huki to da left, or,,,,,,huki to da right, it's impossible to get lost, on an Island, if you go in a "straight" line for long enough, you'll eventually get back to where you started. And, he's a marine, I don't think getting lost is part of their program. Only way in and out of KMBH is the H3, you might want to send him a radar detector instead, think they nabbed one guy a while back doing 140 mph, probably didn't look good on his record....

Aloha and melekalikmaka

We used a Garmin 260W in Maui and it worked great. I have to think most Garmins use the same mapping system and it would work well on Oahu as well.

A Magellan with updated maps will also work. The only place we had trouble was some of the smalle streets in Kalihi and Manoa.

It's also pretty difficult to get lost.
