The latest is it will take over night to get power back, the airport will only let inbound planes land, no take offs. the cause may be lighting strikes on high tension lines.

I was chatting with a friend who lives on her boat in the Ala Wai when she said the power blinked. Then a moment later she said it was out. Then she looked, it was dark most everywhere and there were a few alarms going off. Pretty soon folks were out on the sidewalk heading towards the yacht club to get drinks before all the ice was gone and she had to go so she could conserve batteries on her phone.

Apparently, the power is off over the entire island including where the Obama family is vacationing as well.

According to news reports on mainland power is out for between 800,000 and 1M in Oahu due to lightening strikes. They expect it to take 12 hours to repair.

We were without power in upstate NY for 4 days in an ice storm two weeks ago. At least you don't need heat! Aloha and be safe.
