something ive been really curious about since considering to move to hawai'i; how is the fishing on oahu both fresh and saltwater? ive read on a lot of pages that oahu is really overfished which i can obviously understand but is it really that bad that nothing bites whether your fishing from a pier or the surf? i hope not because if i end up moving that is one thing i will definately be looking forward to. and as far as fresh water fishing is concerned, where are good spots to go?

Hawaiian waters are over fished. Unless you're a good (and lucky) fisherman and know where to go, its tough to catch anything desirable onshore. Others like to go spear fishing or catch tako (octupus) and they have success. I used go fishing a lot while growing up. Some of my favorite locations were Punaluu, Kahuku, Makaha, Waianae and an area near Campbell industrial.

As for fresh water fishing, some like to go fishing in the Wahiawa Reservoir (Lake Wilson), but its usually catch-and-release. The water is nasty.
