I'm looking for a peaceful beach, not too much traffic- and calmer waves. (On Oahu)
Any suggestions?

Ala Moana Beach park across from Ala Moana Shopping center has a nice swimming area with no waves since there is a reef which protects it. Wide white sand, too.

I realize you are probably asking about a beach to visit for the day, but I will second the vote for Waikiki in the off hours. One of my favorite experiences on O'ahu is heading to the beach at dawn and just floating peacefully on my back inside the breakwater watching the birds fly and the clouds change color and listening to the crackle of the shrimp...
