My sister will be relocating to Gainesville in the next few weeks and is looking at apartments in Gainesville, within decent driving time to Shands UF.

So far she is considering The Gardens and Bivens Cove. Does anyone have input on these complexes? Also can anyone recommend GOOD apartment complexes without major problems. Probably in the $600 to $800 range.

Depends on what you consider "decent driving time". I'd recommend the Reserve at Kanapaha or Asbury Park. Asbury is gated and you have a garage, all within walking distance to Publix, restaurants, etc.

Here in GNV no drive will be longer than 30min even in peak traffic. Now, pretty much everything here fits your budget EXCEPT those luxury complexes right on Arcer & 13th (those cost $1.5k)

There are a ton of complexes right around 5th & SW 2nd well located close to downtown. Now if being close to party scene is not your priority I'd suggest looking around E62ns street, I know Spy Glass has good places going for $650

Anything else please ask

Look at Sun Bay. It's not bad, most of the apartments are remodeled, and it's cheap. A remodeled 2 BR is from $575 to $610. A 1 BR is even cheaper. It's a mile or so from Shands, and she wouldn't even have to drive, because the bus stops right out front and goes straight to Shands. It has a great pond too, complete with ducks. If your sister wants something a little nicer, let her look at Sun Key and Sun Harbor, both owned by the same company, so she can look at them all at one time if she wants. I live in Sun Bay, and aside from a few minor maintenance problems, which they were quick to fix, it's a very nice, quiet place to live. Sun Key is townhomes, a little more expensive, but still nice. The Winn Dixie is right on the corner, and it's a little over a mile from the library and University Ave.

My sister lived at Bivens Cove for a few years before buying her own place. From all that I heard, it was decent but non-descript. It looked relatively clean and she never had any complaints about crime. She enjoyed the Chop Sticks restaraunt across the street.
