I will be coming to Ocala the last week of March. I have a few days booked at both SummerGlen and Stone Creek. I am sure both places will be trying to sell me a home. I have researched them and believe I have found out as much as I can before visiting.
What do I need to know that is not in the brochure?
How much room is there on the "list" prices?
Is buying New such a good idea with so many resales available?. What's with the Summerglen 12 months to close program? Is that legit? Sounds to good to be true.

Any info is appreciated. Just for reference...I am male, 60..retired..single..active (No Golf). Which development do you think is best for someone like me?

I don't know specifically about either but there have been threads here about both recently, you could do a search to find out more info - you might also want to consider The Villages as well (not to mention others in the vicinity). My take on resales is that you might find a nice home that's only a few years old (I think both are fairly new) but if you have an eager seller, you may get a better price plus there might be some landscaping done (would get a home inspector anyway). NOt sure how much room is on the list price but given the economy, I would think there may be a good amount (depending on how long they've been on the market etc). Spending time there and talking to the residents will give you a good feel for the area. Good luck and keep us posted.

I live in SummerGlen and it suits me. One year next month. Resales list for more than the new homes and the builder will build to your specifications. Some great deals. No gimmic. In March there will be 3 weekends when they will be showing off their homes. Check my website in my profile. Give me a call when you come down and I will show you around. Or e-mail me. Of course it would be nice if you told them I referred you. They do have a policy where you can buy the home and delay start of building it. Not sure how much they require as a deposit. They do have a policy where you buy a home and they lease it back from you for one year. One is available right across the street from where I live. Five others have been sold and are being leased back. The workmanship is excellent and they retain the same crews to do all the work. On top of that everyone here is friendly. Jake

My husband and I recently bought a resale home in Stone Creek. We did look at inventory homes by the builder; and they told us they were negotiating even off the discount price of inventory homes; but you have to use their mortgage company (with higher fees). When you visit their sales office, they will give you a price list of their inventory homes with the discounted prices on it. The resale home we ended up buying is two years old and we purchased it for $90K less than what the seller had paid for it.

The good part about Stone Creek is it is right on the edge of The Villages, that could also be the bad part too depending on how you want to retire.
