Would abolishing the STATE INCOME TAX help Ohio? Would it help bring in industry......meaning jobs?

Would it help attract RETIREES and encourage more of them to move to Ohio and spend their income here? With retirement and investment income, retirees support local jobs but are not competing for jobs. It is a big boost to the economy.

You have to make up that money somewhere. Most states that do not have an income tax either have another source of revenue, such as Florida (tourism), Alaska (oil), Nevada (gaming) or raise the corporate tax to compensate. The only state without a corporate tax or a unique source of revenue is Wyoming. I do not know much about WY, but it does not strike me as a retirement or corporate haven.

What is "Ohio" that you are trying to help? Ohio is an abstraction, it doesn't exist as a solidly defined entity with uniform "properties" and "interests". Obviously, high income Ohioans would welcome substitution of state income tax with 10% food sales tax and/or 20% mobile home sales tax targeting less blessed masses. Will it help "Ohio"?

I can create a $0.25/hr job right know, any takers? What jobs, what industries you all want to bring in? How buying 4% more of Chinese etc. junk using money saved on State Tax will jump start Ohio economy?

Ah, you mean another Vermont and such where a native working class type cannot afford to buy/own even a chicken coop due to an influx of the wealthy out of staters?

They are competing for local resources, homes, land, etc. using non locally earned money. It's the surest way to transform locals into cheap service underclass, commuting 60 miles one way to their $8/hr cleaning jobs.

Pick it apart all you want, but from what I can tell the states that do not have an income tax are doing a lot better than Ohio. The taxes in Ohio are the number two reason I've been very hesitant to move there.

Can you give "a lot better" some kind of a numerical estimate? 90% (+/-) of states have an income tax. TN and Florida are exceptions, not a rule. Last I time I checked, neither can boast a stellar economy, especially Florida, a true poverty crack hole if you are not a wealthy out of state retiree.

Ending the state income tax would require the state government to cut spending drastically, which will never happen. At least not until these state governments start going belly up when the municipal bond bubble rears it's ugly head.

Maybe, maybe not.

But I bet if they were to abolish the welfare system, that would save us tax payers allot of grief. And hopefully it would drive the welfare riders out of the state and bring the big companies back for the those of us who are willing and wanting to work for a living.

That's why we have guns. Besides, if you think about it, they're already dipping into OUR fridges. Everytime we pay taxes to support their lazy butts, they're stealing from you, me our friends and all who work for a living.

Yes, because it is a proven fact that EVERYONE on welfare is a "lazy butt".
