My partner has a new job in Nelsonville so we are looking for the a diverse, and family oriented place to live with small children. We would like for it to be one of theses three locations. Any feedback on which would be the best place? Which one has the better schools?

Not sure how much "diversity" you're expecting in SE Ohio, but Athens would be the closest thing as the home of Ohio U.

They also seem to have well-rated schools for the area, and the most to do entertainment-wise.

Definitely Athens. It has the better schools and is slightly more diverse as a result of Ohio University.

You would be better off to stay in Nelsonville as opposed to a college town that is the home of Ohio's #1 party school.

This is far from the truth. Sure, the areas immediately surrounding campus are primarily student rentals that can get rowdy, but the rest of Athens is quiet and fine for families. I obviously wouldn't recommend living on Palmer St or anything like that.

OP, also check out The Plains, just NW of Athens city. It's even more quiet and shares the same school district (Athens High School is actually in The Plains.)

Living in SE Ohio my whole life, I would say that it would be better to stay in Nelsonville because, Athens and Athens County are the poorest in the state and once OU lets out for break, Athens dies. IMO, if you are looking for diversity, try looking into the big C's. Nelsonville is nice but it's not what I would call cosmopolitan. But, it's still nicer then Athens and Hooking Hills are beautiful.

Never in my life have I heard someone refer to Nelsonville as "nice". I attended OU and my husband briefly lived in Nelsonville. Not calling it cosmopolitan is the understatement of the century.

As someone else already mentioned, diversity is not something you will find in SE Ohio. Your best bet is Athens. After that I would look at Lancaster. Athens Co. may be the poorest (taking your word for it, pjw but if so I'm guessing it's because of the high student population) but nothing in SE Ohio is wealthy. I'm guessing the difference between the counties is negligible. They're all pretty poor and rundown. It's unfortunate because it is a beautiful area.

I just remembered the amount of boil alerts we had while attending OU. shudder

I posted in the most recent thread you started, but you might be better off in the SE suburbs of Columbus, Canal Winchester and Pickerington.

Logan, maybe? I don't like long commutes to work and a commute from Logan would probably be reasonable.

You can get pretty much anything in Lancaster that you can get in Columbus except for more high-end fashion items. Logan gets you closer to this.

However, what the previous poster said is correct. Southeastern Ohio is kind of run-down. It's got some nice places, but for the most part ...
