Thought this would be an interesting idea for a thread. I thought Ohio would be a particularly interesting place to choose for this however, as it was the fastest growing state in the country during the dawn of photography between the 1840s and 1860s. So, post a picture of the oldest photograph you can find for each city in Ohio. I’ll start with this one of Dayton from 1846, showcasing a marching parade for the Mexican American War, which had just broken out.

Here is a link to the Massillon museum's page about Abel Fletcher. He invented a process of creating paper negatives that allowed an image to be reproduced.

But per the topic of this thread, there is a picture of downtown Massillon from 1855.

Is the photo presenting the view of Lincoln way looking east the first photograph ever taken in Massillon, or is that the portrait of Martha and Abel Fletcher?

The photo of Lincoln Way looking east is the earliest photo of downtown, taken in 1855. The portrait was taken a year later, in 1856.

First photograph ever taken in Columbus, from 1849. It shows westbound pioneers gathering in town to begin their trek to California in search of gold.

Daguerreotype View of Cincinnati

First photo(s) in the form of a panorama, of Cincinnati, from September 1848.

Sent a link instead, having realised photos disappear often when you send them.

Do you see how it looks like the hillside slid down and partially covered the homes in the background, and one of them seems like its been knocked off it's foundation....wonder how that happened...mudslide? earthquake? Is it earthquake damage from the New Madrid quake in 1812?

More likely that they just cut all the trees down which made the hillside unstable. All it took was a good rainstorm after that.
