(I'm also posting this in the Tulsa forum.)

I have just been offered a job at Oklahoma State U. in Stillwater and I start mid August. I'm looking for a rental property for me, my husband, and our cats. We currently live in a house, and we have some outdoor things that we would like to keep, so a house would be ideal, but we would consider a townhouse, duplex, or even an apartment. But, we don't want to live in an area that's mainly students.

I've been cruising craigslist and some other online sources, but I'm having trouble finding places that allow pets.

Is there a housing locator service in town?

Also, I've never been to Stillwater, so I don't know anything about the town and what areas are mostly students, which ones are more dangerous, etc. Are there particular streets that I should avoid?

I feel a little like I'm stabbing in the dark here, and I'm under quite the time crunch, so any other advice you might have would be AWESOME. Thanks!

You might repost to the general Oklahoma forum, too....seems to be a little more Stillwater activity on there.

Moving there myself next month, but have family in the area who are helping me with finding housing. In general it seems like it's best to avoid the large complexes especially if they cater to students, and also places that are right on some of the busier streets mainly due to noise. My cousin has said there are places to avoid, but I don't know if it's any one area of town or if they are just specific locations.

I didn't realize there was a general Oklahoma forum. I'll post there.

Do you know what the busier streets are?
