We can spend 700 million on stupid crap, but we can't make our schools safe for kids. I going to make a web page and go to congress to fight for this.

They do--it is called hallways. They seem to think that is fine, up to now.

Watching the news coverage and wondering how places like schools can be built like crap and without cellars in an area that is so obviously prone to tornados .From debris it looks like the school roof could have ripped off in a common thunderstorm? Not the first time this area has been wiped out.Public officials who built this school should be held responsible.Mind blowing.

Hope our US congress is more sympathetic to the people of Oklahoma than they were to the people in NY and New Jersey in the wake of hurricane Sandy.

Couldn't agree more! Given the frequency of such tornadoes, ALL schools and public buildings should come equipped with cellars.

I have lived in Oklahoma most of my life and still can't believe most schools don't have storm shelters.

I know! More shelters in these homes. Every new home built in OK should also come with a storm cellar/safe room, though I don't know if they do that already, but if not, they should.

Hunch is it has to do with costs sadly enough. I think adding shelters to ALL schools is worth every penny. NO reason for this in this day and age.

All ( well most ) were sympathetic. Problem was a few weasels decided to try and sneak in stuff ( PORK ) to the funding bill which had ZERO to do with Sandy. Sorry but you don't do that. A simple straight forward bill to help the people was all that was needed.

Please keep this discussion civil and be sensitive to the people of OK who have experienced such a horrible loss. Please report any post that is disrespectful to the citizens of OK. I have zero tolerance for anyone who is insensitive of this situation
