Gary started at channel 9 in 1972.

While I was looking that up, I found this:

Nope. It's KOKH. Those same calls exist today as a FOX affiliate.

Someone earlier said Gary England started on channel 9 in 1972. I remember him with my anxiety rising as he gave warnings on the the Friday the 13th tornado as it approached Stillwater in 1975.

I thought this was a great book: Weathering the Storm: Tornadoes, Television, and Turmoil by Gary A. England.

It tells the story of Gary's life, his trials and tribulations with news directors, and has great info about tornadoes.

I grew up during the 80's and as a kid watched KAUT 43, and KOKH 25's newscast with Ronnie Kaye. I still remember him saying at the end of each newscast, "Next news when it happens." I also remember channel 13's slogan, "Public television for all of Oklahoma." Back in the early eighties the announcer on OETA had a voice that I thought sounded creepy.

This is a little more recent, but when in the mid-90s, I loved Saturday Late nights, because SNL was still good, and then they played re-runs of Star Trek: The Next Generation, then Start Trek Original, and then Mystery Science Theater.
