Hi. After my recent experience with USAA I want to leave and find a different insurer for my vehicle. I'm looking for a policy that has similar terms. Specifically:

a) If an uninsured driver hit me and he is at fault my deductible won't be applied and the insurance company will cover the whole repair cost.

b) If I need a rental during the repairs of my car I won't have to pay anything, even if my premium might be slightly higher.

Which companies do you have in mind?

Also do you think that underinsured coverage (not uninsured) is required OK drivers or not?

Thanks

A. Basically all carriers have uninsured motorist coverage, which is what you would need if the other person is uninsured.

B. From my experience, all insurance companies have a rental limit. Some pay a certain percentage or dollar amount per day, or will pay for 100% of the cost of the rental car up to a policy limit (Ive seen $500 to $1500) Technically speaking, no insurance company will let you rent a big ol Minivan or Pick up truck while your vehicle is in the shop for a month. If you expect repairs to take a long time and youll need a rental, go with a smaller, cheaper, rental vehicle in case you get close to reaching your rental policy limit. Oh and most rental places require a security deposit (which will be given back to you) that insurance will not cover.
