My hubby and I are relocating to Ada, Ok in 3 weeks from Alaska. He is retiring (at least semi-retiring) and I have a position at the hospital in Ada. I have been trying to learn as much as I can about the town before we arrive in a few weeks.

We are empty-nesters and live a simple life. We believe in God but we don't go to church. We are republican, pro-gun, mind your own business people. We are not into night life at all. We work, and we like being home. We do like to shop, read, collect books, take road trips, visit casinos, explore dining options, and travel.

I have been trying to find out as much as I can about life in Ada. Are there any recent threads regarding Ada? I have been searching for something more recent than 4 or 5 years ago. Please tell me about life in Ada.

Thank you in advance,
Icu2rn

Ada is a somewhat further from Oklahoma City than what I'm used to, but since it's not a real little town, it should be just fine. At least it's big enough to have a Wal-Mart.

I think Ada is pretty nice for a small to middle sized Oklahoma town. The college adds some stability to the economy and culture in the town. Ada also has a pretty good sized service area so it has some amenities that generally might not be seen in towns it's size.

Ada is also located in a nice spot in Oklahoma. It's not too far from Southeastern Oklahoma which is easily the most stunning part of the state and it's quick over to the Arbuckle Mountians which have some outdoor acitivities. Norman/OKC are an hour or so away and Tulsa isn't a whole lot further. Dallas is accessible.

There are casinos everywhere here now, and some of the best eating in the state is over at Krebs which is less than an hour east of Ada.

Just make sure you get your Ada Cougar outfits because the Cougars are one of the most famous high school football teams in the state.

When I used to lived in Southern Oklahoma I went to several shows at the McSwain Theater. Great venue!

Ada is a great town. East Central University is there. There's some real good churches too. Most are Southern Baptist.

The only gripe I have with Ada is that it's a good ways from the highway...kinda out there by itself. But there are plenty of amenities in town for ya'll to do what you need to do.

And now you're a resident of Pontotoc County. I learned that living while a resident of Southern Oklahoma (Ardmore). You're not just from Oklahoma...you're from wherever county now.

Enjoy the genuine Okie accents, the slow pace, the fishing, and the fried fare.

Welcome to the Great State of Oklahoma!
