I'm moving from Fort Collins, CO to Charleston, SC right before Christmas - I'm pulling a 5 x 8 u-haul trailer behind my car and I'm a little nervous about it because I've never pulled a trailer before. I definitely want to avoid mountains, and I would really like to avoid snow if possible, so I'm taking a longer route than necessary.

I can knock about 3 hours off of my drive if I take I-70 E to I-135 S through Oklahoma City then jump on I-20....rather than taking 287 S through Amarillo on my way to I-20. I'm definitely avoiding Dallas because of the traffic....but I'm wondering how the traffic and winter weather are around Oklahoma City....can anyone help me with information??? I would really appreciate any advice you can give me!!!!

As far as traffic, as long as you aren't here 7 - 8 a.m. or 4 - 6 p.m. you'll be fine, and even in rush hour I don't think it's that bad, barring accidents.

Weather - OKC has a few days of snow each year and probably a few more incidents of freezing rain/sleet, etc. But it's not an every day thing and even when it happens, it's only here for a day or so and then the interstates will be clear and dry (residential streets are another story, but that's not your concern). Check out weather forecast in advance - bad weather does not just develop overnight.

Mountains will not be a problem here

Give yourself plenty of time for travel, keep your speed under 60, load the heaviest stuff in front of the trailer like washers, driers, kitchen appliances, Avoid swerving as the trailer can over run your car and cause it to flip.
