Yes. When I lost my job I was concerned that I would lose my doctor and my diabetes medication. Luckily I was able to get on subsidized COBRA. But I agree one should not have to depend upon having a JOB in order to have access to GOOD INEXPENSIVE medical care. I'm glad things worked out for the OP.

If you have the money you can generally negotiate with the hospital if you pay in full. If you don't, you can have payment plans. Not only that but there are some practices that still do a sliding income scale, but it's not really advertised.

I did this with my parent's hospital bill and I managed to knock it down by almost 70%, and I did the same thing for my brother at about 50%.
