There are special requirements to consider when employing anyone under 16. I don't even remember what they were. Limits on hours and times of day they can work for starters, maybe. I just knew that I didn't want to mess with it as a former business owner. At 14, they are not likely to find regular jobs in traditional businesses. They might do better finding odd jobs, yard work, farm work, and that sort of thing.

Workmans Comp, OSHA, and child labor laws prevent child labor in most industries. there really are only two exceptions. A child may work for family in a family business.......at 16 my son worked for a cousins plumbing company for example. the other is that a child may own their own business. A child may be a shoe shine boy or mow lawns, repair computers, or weed gardens on their own. Some businesses, such as fast food or waitressing, can hire younger teenagers. But real unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled labor type jobs, such as welding, plumbing, framing jobs that require insurance of some type cannot be filled by anyone under 18 and frequently under 21.

And even fast food they wouldn't be able to use a fryer or anything where they could get burnt. Maybe a grocery store pushing carts, but even then there are restrictions. Like they can take the trash out but can't push the button on the compacter, can't carry a utility knife. Seriously, best bet is farm work or picking up a couple neighbors lawn work.
