I heard a report the other night on Council Bluffs, IA had it's third murder case for the year.

Funny thing, about 20 years ago when the casino's were being planned for CB,IA the nay sayers were wanting you to think with all the gambling going on the crime rates would shy-rocket and CB would be a nothing but a crime riddled town like the old wild west.

How many murders does Omaha have?
How many shooting does Omaha have a week?
How many people in Omaha are sent to the hospital each week from gun shot wounds?
How many gang involved crimes in Omaha happen each week?

And all this crime without a single casino in town. Makes you think?

Keno and Horseman's Park does not count.

I am talking Casino style gambling.

For what it is worth Omaha has what nearly 7 times as many people as CB and there have been 11 murders in Omaha so far. CB has only 3, but per capita wise is more dangerous.

As iamjacobm already pointed out your forgetting omaha is WAY bigger than CB. Anyway, relative to other cities in Omaha's class we have very low crime.

But it surprises me not that you would make a post like this. So many of your posts are anti-omaha. One has to wonder why you even post here?

Actually, Happy has a point on this one. It only took almost 4 years and 546 posts, but he finally made a valid point. Of course he still put a bull**** anti-Omaha spin on it, but I digress.

Alot of the arguments that the Nebraska social conservatives used against approving casinos were directly related to crime. Iowa has once again shown them that their arguments are bull****. I'm just glad Nebraska finally got with the times on the last call issue.

If referring to myself, I'm originally from Omaha. I value all the improvements that Omaha has made over the years to make it a great city to live in, especially revitalizing downtown, and all the urban areas of the city. I own a home there still, have family there, and in other parts of Nebraska. Believe me, Omaha has many cities beat within the state of Florida, and in very good ways. Crime here is rampant, just read any daily online newspaper from here. Heard about the 15 year old kid from the Orlando area? Terrible news story. If my comment above was offbeat to the topic, I can't retract it, and I'm sorry. I'd gladly move back to Omaha, I'll always have a place to escape Winter if I cared to.

Back on course/topic - I'm glad that the casinos are in Council Bluffs, not in Omaha. If one wants to gamble, or dine there, just hop across one of the bridges. If you were referring to the OP, I have to say that there's no comparison of any single rate he/she mentioned between the 2 cities. There never has been since the casino's were planned, never will be because of population/demographics difference. I've always felt since I was a kid that once I crossed the river into CB I was in a totally different world. I still feel that way 40+ years later.

I don't think you can use the Council Tucky term anymore.

That town has changed quite a bit for the better.
There are still some funky neighborhoods, but all in all CB, IA really has transformed it's self.
