Louis Market has good deals on meat, and they were comparable in prices when Hinky Dinky? was open on NW Radial Hwy. Years back LM's building and interior was a not in the best of shape.

anyone think

a dollar general or dollar tree should go in the old louis market

mean, at least a dollar store would be better than a over-priced louis market type store

people in benson tower are of limited income.

as are others in benson.

not everyone in benson is wealthy as some would think

why cant they have something that is reasonably priced.

I mean a dollar store seems to work okay for dundee and florence areas,

why not benson area folks who are of limited financial means

plus, benson could use something other than 15-20 bars on maple street

Louis Market, a longtime fixture in Benson, will close in the coming months...

i hope it becomes a no frills

need a cheaper grocery store in benson

and yes, no frills is a local omaha based franchise
I think 'No Frills' is what Save-A-Lot is called in Canada.

Amazing how an 'over priced market type store' could stay in business so long if there wasn't a segment that would support it in the area.

When you're the only game in a given area you can charge more because people need to eat. Now the closest store is either a convenience store or a family dollar. The nearest supermarket is almost a mile and a half away, far too distant to walk for most people on a regular basis. Yet another problem with the car culture we live in.

So everybody drives a car in Benson because of the car culture we live in, but 1.5 miles is too far to walk even though they don't, so they were trapped going to Louis'?. Wait.. What was the question again?

Somehow in the 10 years I lived there I must have figured out how to escape the black hole that is Louis and go to Bakers/Albertsons quite often instead, and even No-Frills sometimes.

Louis' almost made it almost a century doing what they did. They were obviously priced OK for their location. I guess anybody is free to reopen their own and charge less since they are sure they still will make a profit margin on the single location volume discounts that no one is going to give you.

Yep, when you don't have a car anything much over 6 blocks is out of reach. When you have been sucked into car culture you loose all perspective of just how far things really are. Bakers/Albertsons and No-Frills are all about 45 minutes to an hour walk from Louis market. Much too far to walk on a regular basis.

If they were priced right they would have enough customers to stay in business. So clearly they are not priced ok.

harsh, there is a 18 and 8 buses that go near bakers on 72nd and ames,

but depending on where u live or the day (sunday bus service sucks in omaha)

many are waiting for the new walmart to be built on 50th and ames

and walgreens is moving to 60th and radial in early 2013

so that might help benson area folks somewhat

oh, to say everybody drives a car in Benson because of the car culture we live in, u must be assuming all the cars u see at the bars are benson folks

they arent. most benson folks arent into the 15 plus bars in benson lifestyle.

most of the bar partons always at benson bars and the self-professed benson neighborhood reps dont even live in benson
