aka https://www.facebook.com/lifeafterexmovie

mentions another movie being made in Omaha.

Omaha has a small Indie film industry just like a small music industry, cause it seems every month now there is film auditions for something in Omaha.

Film offices in Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas team up to lure moviemaking money - Omaha.com: OMAHA METRO

LINCOLN — Lacking state tax incentives, four states have joined forces to help lure film companies, and their economic impact, to shoot features there.

Called the Mid States Film Commissions Partnership, it brings together the efforts of film officers in Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri and Kansas to help films find suitable locations, work out logistics and, if necessary, arrange for local crews.

Though such cooperation isn’t new, the state film officials decided this year to give a name to their cooperative efforts, according to Laurie Richards, Nebraska’s state film officer.

“We have to be creative and engaging,” Richards said, in trying to lure films to what some consider “flyover states".

A tall tale told at NYU leads to her degree, short film – now she's back in town shooting it

Posted: Wednesday, June 8, 2016 12:30 am

By Micah Mertes / World-Herald staff writer

Many filmmakers bleed to get their first movie financed. Omaha native Mary Kerrigan, 22, danced. And danced. And danced some more.

Kerrigan, a Westside High School graduate, is in the metro area this week shooting “Geez Louise,” her senior thesis film.

Kerrigan graduated from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts this spring, and the short film is her final bit of business.

“Geez Louise” follows a 9-year-old girl who accidentally collapses a house construction site, much to the chagrin of her kooky community.

Long before Kerrigan could start shooting, she had to find the money. NYU financed some of the production, but Kerrigan ended up paying for the rest through the crowdfunding site Indiegogo, bringing in nearly $13,000.

The campaign had a twist: Anyone who contributed during one particular day received a personalized dance video from Kerrigan.

“I started the dance-a-thon as a joke, kind of a fun gimmick,” she said. “But everyone wanted a video.”

And so Kerrigan ended up making 52 dance videos in one day. She said she was sore for a week, but, hey: The campaign brought in $5,000 that day alone.

Kerrigan and her crew will be shooting “Geez Louise” through Sunday around Gretna and Papillion’s North Shore neighborhood, near Werner Park. About 80 percent of the film will be shot outdoors. Kerrigan’s mom’s basement will serve as an interior. “We’re utilizing the resources,” Kerrigan said.

She chose to shoot her film in the Omaha area not just for financial and logistical reasons; she also wanted her debut to show where she comes from.

“It feels like it should reflect my life up to this point,” she said, “incorporating the people who got me to where I am and the community I know and love. I couldn’t have made my first movie any other way.”
