Looking for ideas for a long weekend (4 days) between Christmas and New Years. No kids, just husband/wife

THinking of driving up to 5 hours or if flying a direct flight.

Besides the obvious of driving to Kansas City for the holiday lights/events on the Plaza, what other ideas do folks have.

Default A little bit longer of a drive, but

you could try Minneapolis or Chicago...driving times of appr. 6-8 hrs. Both are very beautiful that time of year, cold but beautiful. You could do a NE rd trip and not take the interstate, staying at B&B's in small communities. Rent a cabin at Lake Ikera (SP) in Iowa, about 2 hrs away, and do some winter camping; take a wine tour at some of the fine NE/IA wineries.

Just throwing out some ideas of course.

Definitely Chicago. It's a bit over 5 hrs but endless amount of things to do. You could always surprise your wife with a nice dinner atop the Hancock Tower (I think the Sears Tower may have a nice restaurant as well.) Navy Pier...I could go on forever. Huge price range for downtown hotels also. Obviously, the El Train is very easy to get around on. Maybe catch a Bears game, if they're at home. Like I said, endless things to do.
Good Luck!

Try the Black Hills. Tourist season is over and hotel rates are very cheap. May be too long with a 7 hour drive though. Check flights.

Fly to Las Vegas take in a few shows. They have packages that include flight tickets and hotels with tickets to shows. I think that Lincolh has direct flights for long weekends to Las Vegas and if they do then Omaha might as well.

Amana, Iowa is a fun trip. Lots of nice shops, great restaurants, bed & breakfast places to stay. You wouldn't regret going there.
