Take a look at this discussion in the Nebraska thread: //www.city-data.com/forum/nebra...-nebraska.html It has 3 or 4 links within it that give some perspective on the landscape.

I should have specified. With the exception of the Mohney area Eastern Nebraska seems very bland and boring to me. That is just my opinion though and many people like it.

corel,

I have not seen anyone give you this web link.

Nebraska Weather and Climate

It has information about the weather in Nebraska to include a lot of information on our local tornadoes that we have.

It also has lots of interesting photo sets just about what we have in Nebraska and other areas that are around Nebraska. Just go to the PHOTO RESOURCES section and enjoy.

Nebraska to include the Omaha area is a great State and area to raise kids.

Hope that you come to Nebraska.

You are welcome.

I was born, raised, left for military service, then returned to Nebraska. When you come to Nebraska at first you might think why here. Give it time, travel about Nebraska to see all that we have to offer. Nebraska is a great place to raise a family. I have lived in the western part the central part and now the eastern part and it has all been good.

You will hear discussion on taxes with Nebraska people. Specific taxes here could be higher than you are used to (property tax), but be sure to balance that with the overall standard of living and what you get for your money. So yes, proportionally I may pay more in property tax than a lot of other states, but there is no way I could live the way I do in most other places (economically speaking, not quality of life).

That's just new tonight.

But really I don't think it can be that bad!!

I tend to think that the larger cities with more resources are probably better (Omaha, Lincoln, Kearney, etc.) with the other communities without enough resources 'bringing down the grade.'

I know we certainly had a bad experience in rural Nebraska schools. I've heard nothing but good things about Omaha schools.

The Metro area has some excellent school choices: Papillion/Lavista, District 66, Elkhorn, Bellevue... all very good schools to choose from.

Don't leave out Millard... my son's Millard North High School scored the highest ACT composite average of any school in the metro (anchored of course by my son's perfect 36 ).

The state of Nebraska can't be doing too bad... where that ACT average is concerned... we consistently rank near the very top nationally.

Aside from the schools, what else might be a concern for someone new to the area?
